Kolkata: Over 1,000 teachers who lost jobs following court rulings staged a sit-in outside Bikash Bhavan on Monday, demanding faster recruitment.
Members of the Deserving Teachers’ Forum marched from Karunamoyee Crossing. The teachers are among 25,753 staffers whose appointments were invalidated over alleged irregularities in the 2016 SSC recruitment process.
They sought meetings with the school education minister and CM Suvendu Adhikari. The Supreme Court has set May 30, 2027, as the deadline for fresh recruitment.
