The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced the dates for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) 2026 Tier 1 examination. The computer-based exam will take place from September 30 to October 30, 2026.
The examination will recruit candidates for various Group B and Group C posts in central government departments and organisations. SSC published the latest examination schedule on its official website, ssc.gov.in, on September 12.
The recruitment drive is expected to cover around 12,256 tentative vacancies this year.
SSC CGL 2026 Tier 1 exam pattern
Candidates appearing for the SSC CGL Tier 1 exam will answer 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions. The paper will carry a total of 200 marks and will have four sections, with 25 questions in each section.
The sections are:
- General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 marks
- General Awareness: 50 marks
- Quantitative Aptitude: 50 marks
- English Comprehension: 50 marks
SSC CGL 2026 exam duration
SSC has introduced changes to the timing of the Tier 1 examination this year. Candidates will get 15 minutes for each section and must complete the sections within their respective time limits.
The overall examination will last one hour. Candidates who qualify for a scribe will receive additional time according to the rules set by the commission.
SSC CGL 2026 marking scheme
Each correct answer in the Tier 1 examination will carry two marks. Candidates will also face negative marking, with 0.50 marks deducted for every incorrect response.
SSC will issue admit cards for registered candidates at a later stage. Candidates should keep checking the official SSC website for updates on examination city information, admit cards and other instructions related to the exam.
