SSC has released tentative CGL 2026 vacancies for 10,731 Group B and C posts. Central Excise Inspector has the highest vacancies, followed by Tax Assistant and other major government positions.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has published the tentative vacancy list for the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination 2026. A total of 10,731 Group B and Group C posts are expected to be filled in different central government departments and ministries.
The available posts include Central Excise Inspector, Income Tax Inspector, Tax Assistant, Assistant Section Officer and Upper Division Clerk (UDC), among others.
SSC CGL 2026: Category-wise vacancies
The 10,731 tentative posts are divided among different categories as follows:
- Unreserved (UR): 4,412 posts
- Scheduled Caste (SC): 1,715 posts
- Scheduled Tribe (ST): 804 posts
- Other Backward Classes (OBC): 2,772 posts
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 1,028 posts
- Central Excise Inspector has most vacancies
The Central Excise Inspector post has the largest number of vacancies in the current list. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has proposed 2,366 posts for this position.
Other important vacancies include:
- Tax Assistant: 1,400 posts
- Auditor, Department of Defence, CGDA: 875 posts
- Tax Assistant, Department of Revenue, CBIC: 841 posts
- Assistant Section Officer, Central Secretariat Service: 668 posts
- Income Tax Inspector: 595 posts
Several posts have also been listed under the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). These include 504 Assistant Accounts Officer posts in the State Cadre, 504 Assistant Audit Officer posts in the State Cadre and 513 Assistant Audit Officer posts in the Central Cadre.
